Josh Ryan
Home town:
Austin, TX.
Education:
Josh started his mentorship as a future performance coach during his under-graduate work at the University of Texas, namely his time spent with the University of Texas men's and women's basketball programs under the supervision of the strength and conditioning coach, Todd Wright. He is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) and is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association. He loves competing in any type of sport, from basketball to golf to broomball, but the majority of the time you can see him moving around expanding his own body’s function.
Training:
Using a comprehensive approach to the body, Josh strives to make you the best you can be physically, mentally, and spiritually. With each step, jump, or leap, the body masterfully and efficiently loads and unloads. Driving into and allowing the body as a "complete system" to adapt, develop, and eventually maintain, is the name of the game. Josh's goal for you is to get you there the best, fastest, and safest way possible, utilizing every possible advantage within your own body and driving success from within.
Favorite Quote:
"..there are three things we all should do every day ... Number one is laugh. You should laugh every day. Number two is think. You should spend some time in thought. And number three is you should have your emotions moved to tears, could be happiness or joy... If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day.."-- Jim Valvano
Favorite Food:
Locally grown produce
Favorite Piece of Workout Equipment:
Open space, bare feet and set of power block dumbbells. All you need!
Embarrassing Moment:
Although I revel in the moments that bring you down to earth, nothing has come to mind. This question should be asked to my three sisters Rachel, Sarah and Hannah, I am sure they would have plenty to share.
Training Style (In Three Words):
Efficiency, clean movement, and tweakology - "How can I make you move better?"
What Actor/Actress do you believe should portray you in a movie?
No question, Josh Duhamel ...dead ringer, looks just like me.
If you could go to dinner with any four people in the world, who would they be?
Such a tough question, my table could be endless. Gary Gray, a powerful evaluator and mentor to so many influential people. He has so much experience and drive in changing so many lives with the success of clean movement. Arne Duncan, current U.S. Secretary of Education, as I would take any opportunity to create a better physical education system in the United States; and I might as well start at a high level in order to create the change necessary to give the gift of good health to so many of this country's youth. Philip Yancey and Dr Paul Brand, authors of many books including The Gift of Pain. It is a interesting perspective on life and pain, and how to live it the best way possible. No doubt they are great conversationalists. Any historian from the time period between 1700- 1900's; there is much to be learned from historical references in general, and these individuals lived in and studied a time of so much rapid change.
